We love concrete!
We are madly in love with concrete. Seriously! It's green, sustainable, strong, versatile, cost-effective, and can be absolutely lovely. Check out The Concrete Network here for ideas -- if you're not already utterly enamored of this amazing building material, you soon will be.

Science and politics clash in conservation
It seems a bit peculiar that many conservatives have chosen politics over science, especially in climate change. The word "conservative" after all includes "conserve," and generally speaking conservatism is about conserving and acting in a cautious, sensible manner. Somehow, however, modern conservatism finds itself in the bizarre position of acting reflexively against science, caution, and common sense -- simply because, oddly enough, the conservation position is associated with liberal politics. It's strange. Anyway, here is the NY Times' Paul Krugman with a sharp, succinct observation on this situation.

An Office Building Constructed From 32 Used Steel Shipping Containers
In ultimate recycling news, MetroGREEN Business journalist Jonathan Schein mentions the "Box Office," a Providence RI office building constructed from 32 used steel shipping containers, and due for completion in 2010. Apparently, nearly 40 percent of the building is already leased. The steel containers aren't the only thing getting recycled -- the building is in a run-down area, and this project looks likely to bring back some life. Excellent work all around!
