Carpet America Recovery Effort Receives Environmental Business Award
Congratulations, CARE!
CARE was formed as a result of the Memorandum of Understanding for Carpet Stewardship (MOU), a national agreement signed by members of the carpet industry, representatives of government agencies at the federal, state and local levels and non-governmental organizations. CARE works to develop market-based solutions for recovering value from discarded carpet in order to facilitate the achievement of the organization’s ultimate goal of a 40% diversion rate of post consumer carpet from the nation’s landfills. For more information or to learn more about how to recycle used carpet, visit the Care website.
In recognition for its achievements in diverting post-consumer carpet from America’s landfills, the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) has received a 2009 Business Achievement Award from Environmental Business Journal, a publication of strategic information developer Environmental Business International. Specifically, CARE won a Project Merit award in the category of Sustainability and Resource Protection.

Starnet Members Embrace CARE Aligned Dealer Program
The Carpet America Recovery Effort, or CARE, has something exciting going on – an expanded membership program that offers carpet dealers a cost-effective opportunity to join CARE and support carpet recycling. So far, the first few months of CARE’s new Aligned Dealer Program has attracted some impressive support, including from Starnet Worldwide. CARE is the nationwide alliance of carpet manufacturers, recyclers, dealers, and regulators committed to finding new markets for post-consumer carpet and diverting carpet from landfills.

Nearly half of StarNet Worldwide's 160-plus membership of independent commercial flooring contractors has joined CARE. The program was introduced to Starnet members at the group's November 2009 Membership Meeting held in Washington, DC. "It's been a great response in a short period of time," said Starnet vice-president of operations Fred Williamson.
